Rumor has it that ABS-CBN is not planning to renew John Lloyd Cruz’s contract once it expires in January. Is it because of the actor’s strange behavior on social media of late?
Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter are flooded with everything John Lloyd Cruz and Ellen Adarna these days as their rumored romance takes the spotlight from current events including pressing social and political issues.
Their recent SocMed posts, which were taken mostly in Cebu where the two Kapamilya stars went on a vacation with a few friends, are making headlines with the dramatic actor taking most of the media mileage and airtime. In between their sun-kissed posts are videos and photos that made a lot of people felt either disgusted or sorry for the actor. Some became more interested to know the real score. And many say Ellen is dragging Lloydie into a ditch.
Early this month, videos of the Kapamilya actor had gone viral to where he was caught on tape in a drunken state, some even surmised he could have been under the influence of a prohibited drug. It launched an avalanche of memes poking fun at the Lloydie’s unusual behavior like dancing and flashing the middle finger, and sitting by the gas stove. Alarm bells are ringing and fans are more attentive.
The Instagram account, which the actor personally maintains, shows similar behavior, too. There’s this post that shows human feces, and a series of repeated posts of a white ceiling with a single light bulb and the crucified Christ with a distorted face. Definitely, that’s not the John Lloyd people are used to. That’s not the gentleman similar to the characters he plays on TV and movies.
Amid the sudden outburst, his network still defended the troubled actor. In a statement sent to TV Patrol by Star Magic’s Johnny Manahan, after the controversial video gone viral, the executive said John Lloyd was “just letting off some steam” and will be more careful with his actions in the future.
“John Lloyd works hard as an actor. 18 hours at a stretch. He was just letting off some steam. In this age of an all-pervasive social media, what is ok and innocent in private becomes worthlessly controversial in public. He will have learned his lesson and be more careful in the future,” Manahan’s statement read.
With these hullabaloos hounding him, some people are asking: Is Ellen a bad influence to John Lloyd?
That is a valid question but shouldn’t it be the other way around? The public doesn’t really know the actor apart from the roles he plays. John Lloyd is old enough to decide for himself. He’s 34 and Ellen is five years his junior. Hence, Lloydie should be the dominant one unless his mind is not that capable of making any adult decision. And it’s unfair to say that it’s Ellen who triggered John Lloyd to act differently – behavior doesn’t change overnight most especially one’s character.
At the end of the day, it’s his life and people can only say so much about how he runs it or who he wants to be in it. He is not going to be affected by any amount of criticism in his current frame of mind as he claims of being so happy and feeling so real. Perhaps, fans just need some reminding that celebrities are also mortals and that the roles they play don’t necessarily reflect who they are in real life.
