Twenty-two-year-old Janine Marie Tugonon who represents Balanga, Bataan and last year’s first runner up bested 29 other hopefuls in the annual Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on April 15.
The 5’9″ Janine graduated at the University of Sto. Tomas with latin honor (cum laude). The beauty queen is also a ballerina.
During the Question and Answer portion, Janine was asked by judge Jose Manuel Romualdez about her feelings towards women of today who choose a successful career over a happy family life.
She responded, “Well, I believe that women have the right to choose between what they want. But for me, you’ll have to go for what God has called you to do. Whatever it is between the two, you must do what’s your purpose in this world. Just have a child-like faith and mature obedience and everything will go smoothly.”
Other winners are: Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism Katrina Dimaranan; Bb. Pilipinas-International Nicole Schmitz; 1st runner up Elaine Moll; and 2nd runner up Annalie Forbes.
Meanwhile, last year’s second runner up and this year’s heavy favorite Mary Jean Lastimosa who won Miss Avon and Miss Philippine Airline awards walked home without any crown. What’s your take on this year’s winner? Comment field below or follow the author @knicknocks.

i agree with u mj….even im not choice janine to win but i predicted that this new miss universe phils will be in the top 5 again ….miss malaysia will not make it to the cut even shes beautiful or peoples choice like deborah henry last year
Sorry guys but I do believe that a lot of proof reading has to be done with your responses before hitting the post comment button. I do not say that I am impeccable using a foreign language nor a perfectionist, but seriously if these are going to be the answers of Janine and MJ in Miss U, I do not think neither of them would have bagged the crown. Just saying.

It seems that she has intelligence as well as beauty. It is a shame that here in America many of these pageants are filled with air-heads.
Let’s wait for the next months and see what happens, She should just work hard if she wants to be in the books of Filipina International title holders.
