Does Kapamilya need new noontime show?

Any station should be alarmed when it is losing its audience because it only means that a rival network is benefitting from its failure. In this respect, the Kapamilya network’s plan to launch a new noontime show spells its eagerness to give its rival a real competition to lure its audience back.

Currently, ABS-CBN’s noontime anchor program experiences poor ratings. It is an indication that even though it started as a great show, the viewers are still looking for other elements that Showtime can’t provide. Continue reading

Pumping life into Pinoy music

Early last month, President Benigno Aquino reinstated an executive order requiring all radio stations, with musical format, to broadcast at least four OPM (Original Pinoy Music) songs every hour. That means, at least 25 percent of the program will be dedicated to the Filipino-produced music.

Some radio stations oppose the executive order believing that they will lose their audience, most especially those that play US Billboard chart toppers. Willing or reluctant, there are stations that already begin playing at least one OPM every clock hour.

Local music’s substantial exposure in the airwaves is a good way to start with and if it is the authorities’ approach to create a renewed interest in OPM, then they are on the right track. But in this nationalistic attempt we should also look into the possibilities that listeners might get bored and eventually crave for music that soothes their ears and matches their taste. A smile can be a beautiful accessory when worn every day. Aside from it suits any kind occasion, a smile is a happy virus that can be extremely infectious.

Driving along Edsa, northbound and before approaching Guadalupe Bridge, you will see a huge interactive billboard that can only be seen during the day because it is only partly lit at night. You can find it on the side of one of the tallest buildings in the area. The huge billboard that features a very familiar smile icon will send a significant message in the coming days with your help. Yes, with just one text you can make one bulb be switched on and help one of the 300 hundred kids that will be benefited by the effort. Continue reading

Veteran artists who have been attending different music awards every year and music awards red carpet virgins alike would agree that the 1st PMPC Star Awards for Music offered nothing special.

The awards night that took place at SkyDome in SM North Edsa on Oct. 29 handed out awards like Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year (Male and Female), to name a few, and all of these awards can be described in three simple words— same old usual. Continue reading
