When I received an invite to watch General Luna’s soft launch at the Hard Rock Café a few weeks ago, it didn’t interest me much. I thought it was just another indie band which name is derived from the founder of the first military academy in the country, or probably its members all reside in San Mateo, Rizal where a six kilometer road is named after the first Philippine revolution hero. Call it loud, call it noisy, or call it whatever you like, because no matter how you label it, rock music is here to stay. It’s no longer necessary to check the pop charts if there are any songs from rock bands landed on the list, the thing is, it’s not the only way to determine whether rock music is thriving and if it is in perfect shape.
