The moviemaking technology that Star Cinema will use to produce the film is equally interesting as to who will play the title role. Indeed, there are so many things to be excited about the big screen adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s Darna.
People have been waiting, anticipating since 2013 on who will shout “Ding ang bato!” when ABS-CBN announced that the iconic superhero would be revived on the big screen more than a decade since her last sighting. Also, fans are intrigued whether the film outfit would already employ a 3D technology that displays images twice as fast as the current standard or they would opt to reincarnate Darna using the stunning detail and clarity of Imax format.
It’s really about time for us to see a locally produced movie blown up on huge screens only known to cater to films made in Hollywood studios. But only time will tell if this would really ever happen. What we can control though is the name of the actor who will essay Narda who will transform as Darna after swallowing the “white stone.”
Since Angel Locsin will no longer breathe life into the iconic super heroine, fans have started sending their virtual request on social media on who they think fit to wear the red costume.
In January, Pia Wurtzbach expressed her desire to play the role since she is also making some preparations for her showbiz comeback. In an interview during the Binibining Pilipinas press launch on Wednesday, the former Miss Universe said that ABS-CBN has numerous plans for her career but Darna is not included.
Pop Queen Sarah Geronimo is also one of the names that surfaced to play the role after the original actor quit due to health reasons. But the Popsters’ matriarch is not so keen to do it unless people would want to see a conservative Darna.
“Gusto niyo bang makakita ng Darna na naka-jumpsuit? (Do you want to see Darna in jumpsuit?)” she said when asked for her reaction.
The list of names that can potentially play Darna goes on with Nadine Lustre, Yassi Pressman, Anne Curtis, Julia Montes, Maja Salvador, Kathryn Bernardo, Jessy Mendiola, and Ritz Azul as the most favored by fans. But there’s another star that might have already been chosen to play the title role.
In an interview with Manila Standard in February, Liza Soberano talked about the rumors circulating since January about her replacing Angel Locsin as Darna. Although she said she’s preparing for “a very big project,” she denied it being Darna.
“I heard rumors about it, but no, that role is meant for Ate Angel. I have my own projects and we will have loop tests next month. I’m already training for it as early as now,” she said.
If her “very big project” is another romcom, then why does she need any physical training? Could it be possible that the 19-year-old is already preparing herself physically to the demanding requirement of Darna? Well, that’s us engaging insome wishful thinking and trying to read between the lines.
