ABS-CBN’s film production arm has proven once more that it is the undisputed leader in movie production.
From last year’s record-breaking box office performances of Beauty and the Bestie, which is now considered as the highest grossing Filipino movie of all time, A Second Chance, Crazy Beautiful You and The Love Affair, which all breached the P300 million mark in terms of domestic box office earning, Star Cinema has produced another big screen winner – Everything About Her.
Like most of the movies produced by Star Cinema, the rom-com that stars Vilma Santos, Angel Locsin, and Xian Lim was expected to achieve blockbuster status. And the Joyce E. Bernal helmed movie did exactly that.
In a post on Star Cinema’s official Instagram account, the film outfit announced that the comedy-drama crossed the P100-million mark nine days after it hit the theaters nationwide on Jan. 27.
The basic premise of Everything About Her is kind of sad because it centers on a successful businesswoman named Vivian (Santos), who learned that she is suffering from cancer when diagnosed was already on the advanced third stage. Yes, she’s wealthy but she’s broken deep inside. With no close family member to take care of her, she hires a private nurse, Jaica (Locsin). The younger woman plays a bigger role in Vivian’s life. As the film progresses, Jaica turns to become the bridge between Vivian and her son Albert (Lim), who had felt neglected all his life.
At first glance, there’s nothing unusual about the plot, but why the story works? Simple, it offers enough laughs, hysterical lines (which Ate V. is known for) and enough touching moments to please the audience. And that right mix makes this Star Cinema offering a hit.
