With worldwide gross ticket sales of more than USD 1.2 billion, Frozen is considered the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time and the highest-grossing animation to date.
The film’s success transcends the commercial realm: young children across the globe are unusually obsessed with the film’s soundtrack “Let It Go;” Elsa doll and other Frozen merchandise are already dominating sales for the holiday shopping season; and just recently, Elsa the Snow Queen is listed as this year’s most popular Halloween costume among youngsters and adults.
Indeed, the popularity of Snow Queen Elsa, has taken the entire world by [hail]storm. But why is she isn’t part of the Disney on Ice production that fittingly suits the animated character?
At the media launch of Disney on Ice, which will be staged at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, scribes asked if there would be a chance that Frozen’s Elsa will be featured alongside Tangled’s Rapunzel, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Princess and the Frog and Cinderella since her story has already been added as a segment in shows in the UK and US.
An official from Feld Entertainment, the company that brings Disney on Ice in Manila every year, said that they have encountered the same question numerous times. The official explained that the Disney on Ice shows are somewhere beyond 15 years and they do not have the resources to put up a new show because it entails extensive process.
“As you can imagine, we don’t have all the resources on the road to put up the show. We have to ship everything back to America to reformat the show. In doing that, it means that we have to put some shows off the road in other cities,” the official explained.
To avoid cancelling shows in other cities, Feld Entertainment has just launched a brand-new show that is touring the United States. It’s going to in Manila in two years time he confirmed.
“Next year, we haven’t announced it just yet, but we are adding a segment of Elsa in other shows. We are doing everything in our power to make sure that every country in the world experience the story of Elsa,” the official assured.
Meanwhile, for this year’s show audiences are invited to join Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald and Goofy as they follow four of Disney’s most inspirational princesses on their adventures to fulfill their dreams in Feld Entertainment’s newest ice spectacular, Disney on Ice presents Dare to Dream. Show runs from on Dec. 25 to Jan. 4, 2015.
