WITHOUT WANG²:Are you ready for their Gutz?

AFTER months of incessant publicity, It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez was officially launched last week. It’s a six-episode reality show that gives audience an inside look at the life of Eddie, Annabelle, Ruffa, Raymond and Richard including the less prominent members of the Gutierrez brood.

When people heard that the Gutierrez family would appear in a reality series a la Keeping Up With the Kardashians, they immediately asked: Of all the showbiz families in town, why them?

We have a few perfect candidates to be in a show similar to the popular US series. The Barretto clan is a great example. Audience can have an all access pass to the never-ending feud among the Barretto sisters. This would be a surefire hit only if Gretchen, Marjorie and Claudine would agree to be together in one place with a camera rolling to capture their drama.

The Padilla family can be a good candidate, too. But there will be too many characters if that would be the case. An hour per episode is not going to be enough to give each Padilla a substantial exposure. Hence, the program would only flop just like the movies they star in.

We also have the Revillas. However, as much as we would like to entertain the idea, we do not want to see an early political campaign hiding as a reality show. We would rather see the beautiful and unassuming brood of the Team Kramer (Cheska Garcia, Doug Kramer and their adorable kids).

Therefore, the Gutierrezes’ beautiful genes and the just right amount of controversy in their life make them the best choice in E! Asia’s first attempt to feature an Asian family in a reality show.

The enormous amount of anticipation from fans is giving It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez a lot of favor. First, it’s not going to be shown on a free to air movie (yet) so expect a decent program quality. Also, since it’s neither a Kapamilya nor a Kapuso produced show, expect a massive support from the local viewers. Remember how they rallied on social networking sites just to support the Anne Curtis special on E! Asia?

Vhong’s emotional comeback

Man of the hour Vhong Navarro made a tearful return on It’s Showtime on Saturday more than a month after the controversial mauling incident that now spawned legal battles and character assassination of the people involved in the much talked about scandal.

A tearful Vhong emerged near the end of the show to the cheers of the studio audience and proceeded to thank the “madlang people” for all their prayers and support.

“We haven’t seen each other for a month,” he said, addressing the studio audience in Tagalog. “I want to personally thank you for defending me and believing in me and for praying for me.”

The actor-host furthered that the reason why he remained strong is the people’s continued and overwhelming support. It’s also the same reason why he was eager to get back to work he said.

This grand comeback is another proof that amid Vhong’s serious ordeal, he is still one lucky man. He’s got an army of supporters ready to take his side. Meanwhile, his current foes, Cedric Lee, Deniece Cornejo and Roxanne Cabanero, are interestingly mum on Vhong’s emotional comeback. Perhaps, they’re preparing for an equally big reveal.
