If a picture paints a thousand words, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s photo on Instagram can certainly paint millions.
The boxing champ pokes fun at Manny Pacquiao on photo sharing site and mobile app with a caption: “This is my Christmas card to the world…Happy Sleepy Holidays zzzzzz.”
Mayweather and Pacquiao are the best non-heavyweights of our generation, while to take things a step further, Mayweather may in fact be the best overall fighter we have ever seen. His undefeated record sort of warrants that distinction.
However, one thing that we have not seen is Mayweather and Pacquiao get in the ring against one another and prove who the best really is. A number of issues have prevented this, such as Pacquiao reportedly wanting a 50/50 split of the money to Pacquiao not agreeing to submit to a blood test right before a potential showdown.
It’s extremely difficult to believe that the two men who have largely defined an entire era in boxing could leave a superfight of epic proportions on the table. Thus far they have, but with the clock rapidly ticking toward zero on both men’s careers, the demand is certain to grow.
Call it crazy, but there’s reason to be optimistic that 2014 could finally be the year we see Mayweather and Pacquiao in a ring together exchanging punches. And although everything is still unclear, one thing is for sure, the photo above will elicit blustery reactions from all fans most especially from Pacquiao’s side.
