True to her words, Ariella Arida is proving she means business in the on-going Miss Universe contest in Moscow, surprising her critics who do not believe she has what it takes to continue the country’s hot streak in beauty competitions.
Ariella has caused a stir even before she could set her foot on Russian soil when she said in an interview on ANC‘s Headstart that she was not worried about not being fluent in English as Latina beauties were able to win when they could not even finish a complete sentence in English.
Ariella’s comments have put Latinas in a bad light, particularly, Venezuelan contestants. At the Miss Universe 2012 pageant, Irene Esser of Venezuela gave a bizarre answer that many thought might have been the result of getting her question completely lost in translation. While on the other side, our own Janine Tugonon answered that she did not believe that speaking English should be a pre-requisite to being Miss Universe.
Competing with 86 other beauties from around the world, Ariella who is more familiar with her country men as Ara made her presence felt at the Tony Ward-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia on Oct. 26 where she was one of 27 contestants chosen to model. She stood out with her fierce but elegant catwalk performance.
Ara also shone at the candidates’ welcome dinner party as noted by the web Miss Universe Hotspot and, curiously, her Glam photo was even used by Fadil Berisha, official photographer of Miss Universe, as teaser prior to the release of the candidates’ official Glam shots.
Notwithstanding the oddschecker.com placed Miss Philippines as the top bet to win the Miss Universe crown at 6-1, we can help Ariella get into the top 15 semi-finals round by voting for her name until Nov. 8.
