Rejected by Binibining Pilipinas, Megan Young vindicated herself on a stormy Sunday night when she walked home with a beauty pageant crown. Yes, she won the Miss World Philippines beauty pageant and she will represent the country in the world’s oldest beauty pageant to be held in Indonesia on September 28.
It can be recalled that Megan was disheartened after failing to make the cut in Binibining Pilipinas golden anniversary pageant early this year. There were rumors that Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. decided not to let her participate the pageant because of her seductive photos published in a popular magazine—the same reason why other candidates were disqualified in the past. But now Megan can laugh it off proudly.
Before eventually being proclaimed the winner in the three-year old pageant under Cory Quirino, Megan was also the most decorated candidate during the pageant night bagging a total of eight out of 15 special awards. She was also the press favorite and pageant enthusiasts’ top choice to win the crown since she signed up for the pageant.
During the question and answer portion, the 23-year-old stunner and Film student at De Lasalle College of Saint Benilde was asked “Why do you want to be Miss World Philippines?”
“Miss World Philippines is selfless and to be selfless, you need to have a heart. If I win Miss World Philippines, I would give myself wholeheartedly to be of service—beauty with a heart,” she said and apparently the judges were won over.
