As individual actors Kris Bernal and Aljur Abrenica are better compared with their contemporaries.
Their love team can’t be refuted as they have the necessary chemisty. But why aren’t they making waves as a tandem, or in network’s big bosses’ parlance, a profitable investment?
When both Kris and Aljur won the GMA-7’s talent reality show in 2006, the network instantly groomed them to be Kapuso’s next love team, showered them with TV and movie assignments.
But, Aljur and Kris had their share of unsuccessful projects together. First, their launching movie Nandito Ako…Nagmamahal Sa’Yo was a box-office Titanic and the TV series they starred in failed to out rate their closest rival program on a different station.
By ratings standard, The Last Prince that aired for five months in 2010 was considered as Kris and Aljur’s most successful television series.
The case of the short-lived All My Life and The Coffee Prince that ended seven weeks after it opened was an entirely different story.
Thereafter, the two stars were given individual assignments. Aljur was paired with Rhian Ramos in Ilumina and then with Bela Padilla in Machete. Meanwhile, Kris starred in another soap opera that launched her onscreen partnership with Rocco Nacino.
Now, the Kapuso Network is promoting its latest television series, Ang Prinsesa ng Masa, which sees the revival of Kris and Aljur tandem. Everybody, most especially in the Kapuso lot, is optimistic that the new series will be a big hit. Again Kris and Aljur are entrusted with a prime project. Will they finally be the pair that their home studio planned them to be?
