Nearly every actor in show business has his own share of flop movies, and Richard Gutierrez is no exception.
Just this year, two movies starring the ex-Kapuso prized star slipped at the tills. Seduction, which also starred Richard’s real life romance Sarah Lahbati, is a certified box-office bomb after earning a measly P3.6 million. Its gross earning couldn’t even come close to recouping its production cost. Then here comes another cinematic disaster starring Richard, the GMA Films and Regal Films joint project, My Lady Boss. Interestingly, the romantic comedy also stars Marian Rivera who is known as one of GMA Network’s A-list star, but the movie’s P13 million earning does not have much effect on her career. The movie’s poor performance reflects on Richard’s inability to draw people to the movie houses due his continuous losing streak—flop movies and low-rating shows.
In his interview with the press while promoting My Lady Boss, the 29-year-old actor announced he would be taking an extended break once his commitments with GMA Network are over. He furthered that it’s the perfect time for him to take a vacation, take a long break, step back, assess himself and see where he wants to be.
Part of Richard’s plan is to study filmmaking. Probably, that would be the best way for him to understand why his movies don’t attract a multitude. Then he can decide whether to continue being an actor or just a person behind the camera.
