During his acceptance speech for Box Office King, TV5 star Derek Ramsay gave credit to his cast mates, “The past couple of weeks have been very hard. A lot of negative things have been said, tinanggap ko. This is something really very special to me. Sinabi nga nila naging box office ako dahil sa mga naka trabaho ko, tama sila.”
The Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation is the organization that gives the Box office and Queen Awards along with the most popular stars and performers on TV and music. The ceremony was held at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of the RCBC Plaza last Sunday.
Ramsay explained how his leading ladies in both No Other Woman and Praybeyt Benjamin helped him, “To my talented partners Anne, you’re awesome, you’re beautiful. Cristine you guys definitely made my work a lot easier. You’re a big part of why I’m standing on stage. Vice thank you so much for allowing me to be your leading man. Napaka dali mong ka-trabaho ang you made me shine in that movie. So I share this award with you. The list goes on but I can’t believe we’re here today.”
Both of Ramsay’s co-stars in the huge hit, “No Other Woman” were designated as the Box office Queen: Anne Curtis and Christine Reyes. Curtis however also has a second award as “The Most Popular Female Novelty Singer” for “AnneBisyosa.” A new award “Phenomenal Box Office Star” was also instituted this year received by “Praybeyt Benjamin’s” lead star, Vice Ganda.
The road to Derek’s success was a difficult one and he remembered those who opened doors for him, “I’d like to thank Star Cinema most especially Tita Malou Santos for believing in me. To VIVA thank you very much for fighting for me to take these roles. Tito Jun, Tita Vergie Ramos, Manay Ethel maraming maraming salamat sa advice.”
For him the fans were the source of this success, “I have to thank all the supporters who are here, who watched the movie who believe in me. Maraming maraming salamat kungdi dahil sa inyo wala ako rito. Of course to the Lord, thank you very much Lord for giving me great parents giving me a good life! My life is just getting better and better. Maraming maraming salamat!”
TV5’s “Talentadong Pinoy” received the Most Popular TV Program Reality Talent Search. Ramsay has recently joined the talent pool of TV5 and has received criticisms from his former network’s supporters. Ramsay has repeatedly said that he has no ill will towards ABS CBN. But TV5 has been the network that has been there to help him “get back on my feet”
Other awardees include Christian Bautista is the “Male Recording Artist of the Year”along with Angeline Quinto (Female). Enchong Dee & Erich Gonzales is the “Most Popular Love team of Movies and TV.” Enchong Dee has also won a Star TV Award and Gawad Tanglaw awards for the “Maalala Mo Kaya” episode “Parol.”
Aga Muhlach and Angel Locsin are the “Film Actor and actress of the Year.” Both of them starred in “In The Name of Love” which has also won for them several acting nominatons and awards.
