Though Mara Clara and The Baker King are head to head in ther ratings race, this item is not another development in the raging television network war.
We’re putting this out because The Baker King, which is internationally billed as Bread, Love and Dreams, airs on GMA-7 and is up against ABS-CBN’s Mara Clara at the annual Banff World Media Festival
Bread, Love and Dreams of South Korea and Mara Clara, are nominated in the Soap Opera and Telenovela category alongside United Kingdom’s Coronation Street and three other soaps from the United States namely Days of our Lives, Eva Luna and The Queen of the South.
Banff, formerly called Banff World Television Festival, is the same award giving body that gave Lobo, starring Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual, the Best Soap Opera and Telenovela plum last year. The series was chosen among 800 different entries representing 29 countries.
This year’s festival will take place from June 12 to 15, at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in the Canadian Rockies, and is expected to attract the most prestigious players in the international media marketplace. Winners will be revealed on the last day of the festival which will be staged at AOL Canada Theatre.
Banff also known as The Rockies, is among the most important international media events in Canada. According to its website, Banff is a non-profit organization that aims to recognize, develop, celebrate and encourage excellence in media content production within Canada and around the world.
The festival, which is sometimes described as the Olympics of television, provides a global platform for industry members to discuss and debate, and explore current issues, challenges and trends. It features a comprehensive agenda, including in-depth programming across four intensive streams namely Non-Fiction, Kids and Animation, Banff TV, and nextMedia, which focuses on the latest trends in digital and interactive production.
Now, who will win this year? The Korean version of The Baker King, or the remake of the longest afternoon soap in Kapamilya’s history?
