His name might not ring a bell yet, but for sure in the coming days, he’ll be the one of the more visible newbies on television. Mikael is a 23-year-old (his cousin who is 26 years old said they’re of the same age) true blue Atenista who works as a part-time commercial and print ad model. He has appeared on several TVCs for prominent local brands. During the story conference of Amaya, GMA-7’s upcoming epic drama, Mikael was announced as one of the two leading men that will headline the big-budgeted project. He will portray the role, which according to the grapevine, previously offered to Zanjoe Marudo, Derek Ramsay and Ervic Vijandre. When we snooped around, we found out that he is related to equally handsome Spain-educated architect Jaime Daez, who owns Fully Booked and the flooring store Domus in Greenbelt 5.
We bet, almost all female stars would do everything just to be on her shoes right now. No doubt, the Imortal star is the most talked-about showbiz personality this week. After she turned down Phil Younghusband’s Twitter-posted invite Valentine date, ordinary people and celebrities alike have started snooping on the latest update on their virtual courtship. The funny thing is, it even launched a word war between Tim Yap and TJ Manotoc. It’s not surprising if you hear an Angel Locsin fan remarking, “Ang haba ng hair ni idol!”
Nothing beats drama. This statement holds true to the current performance of Mara Clara in the numbers game. Amid the premiere of new shows in the rival stations, the program that stars Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes still holds the number 1 spot in the ratings race. This good news (at least in the realm of Kapamilya network) prompted the head of ABS-CBN’s corporate communications to announce that it is one of the reasons why the station remains on top of its league.

AiAi delas Alas
Her universe now revolves around a 26-year-old Colombian who has found a job in the country as a model. Recent photos of the two are already been seen on the Internet and tabloids. We are all aware that the comedienne has been in and out of several affairs in the past few years. Could it be the main reason why she is experimenting on relationships and suddenly turns into a cougar? Well, first of all, nothing is wrong to be involved in a May-December love affair, just don’t use it for publicity because it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. But what do we expect of AiAi, her life, most especially the love aspect, seems like a big joke, really. Except that she earns a big living with that joke.
More often than not the pilot episode dictates the fate of a series. It tells us whether the hype prior the airing really did work. In the case of Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis’ newest project, the Green Rose, it’s obvious that it deserves its late night timeslot (when most viewers are already asleep). In the recent data provided by AGB Neilsen, the local adaptation of a Korean series failed to enter the top 10 list of most-watched programs on primetime. The hype didn’t work after all. The network didn’t learn from the stars’ previous team up in the movie Baler. They don’t have chemistry, especially Anne Curtis, who needs to work harder to be believable as Jericho’s love interest.
She is neither a superhero nor a superstar to salvage Machete from losing the battle for primetime supremacy. Her inclusion in the fantasy drama seems a little off because it will just ruin the entire story. It’s evident that scriptwriters had to come up with a new subplot just to squeeze Kris in. The problem with local series, it includes totally unnecessary subplots and additional characters to meet the required number of episodes. In reality, they only confuse the viewers.
